About Community Hevra Kadisha of Greater Boston:
We are a pluralistic Jewish burial society, welcoming Jews of all religious backgrounds and genders as volunteers and serving all Jews who wish for themselves or for their loved ones to be prepared for burial with the ritual of tahara. Our mission is two-fold:
1) To provide the Greater Boston Jewish Community one of the most significant and respected mitzvot in our tradition: the ritual of tahara (washing and preparation of the deceased for burial.) We accomplish this by training a cadre of caring volunteers (haverim) to perform this mitzvah in a ritually prescribed manner when called upon to do so.
2) To educate Greater Boston's Jewish communities about traditional Jewish death practices.
