Hazak is the United Synagogue of Conservative Judaism's Organization for Jews who are 55 and older. Hazak, in Hebrew, is an acronym for Wisdom, Maturity and Looking Forward. We believe in collaborating with and sharing programs with all of the arms of the synagogue including the youth and the children of the Religious School.
Our Purpose
The purpose is to create programming for, addressing the needs of and working with members who are congregants of affiliated congregations of United Synagogue. In our Hazak group we are inclusive of those who are not members of our congregation but who live in many of the communities surrounding the Town of Sharon who are 55 and older. We compliment the adult educational programs that are offered within the congregation and we believe that mature adults should have the opportunity to continue to learn, to be active in their congregations, in their community and among themselves. These opportunities help develop a broad sense of fraternity through the sharing of a variety of creative programs that include study, prayer, entertainment, and socialization.
As a member of Hazak you also have the opportunity to meet other Hazak members on regional and national trips.
In December 2007, Temple Israel's Hazak received the Solomon Schechter Gold Award for Excellence in Synagogue Programming sponsored by the USCJ.
